Item The use of coaching as an intervention framework in clinical social work practice(2024-07-08) Mitchell, Jacob LloydCoaching is an emerging social work practice movement that provides a different lens to support complexities that clients and families experience. Utilizing a solution-focused approach, coaching is an adaptable strategy that can support the work clinicians provide to clients and families in need of support. This advanced practicum final report will provide a detailed analysis of the coaching research and practice that has been conducted during my advanced practicum placement at Thrive Child and Development Centre in Sault Ste. Marie. My advanced practicum was supported through the use of social work theories that I implemented within practice including anti-oppressive practice and pragmatism. Within this final report, research on different realms of coaching has been explored and the relation of these realms of coaching to my primary research focus. Other additions include a comprehensive literature review that will cover an expansive range of coaching related methods, ranging from coaching in social work, coaching in business and professional sectors, and how coaching can utilize social work methodology to sustain its approaches within clinical practice. As a primary focus of this practicum, the use of reflexivity was explored and implemented as a guiding position during my studies. Reflexivity provided the opportunity to reflect and be aware of my practicum environment and the experiences that were provided. To conclude this final practicum report I will discuss the outcomes of my practicum and how it has influenced my helping skills within social work practice.
