On Saturday, September 20th, the J.N. Desmarais Library hosted the inaugural Software Freedom Day event held in Sudbury. Dan Scott organized a symposium-style event, and approximately twenty students, faculty, and members of the public from as far away as North Bay came out to participate in the following agenda:

• Moodle: open source course management software - Rick Danielson, Full Professor, School of Human Kinetics, Laurentian University
• ParaViewGeo: Open source visualization for geoscience - Robert Maynard, Lead Developer, E2V0 / MIRARCO
• Project Conifer - Dan Scott, Assistant Librarian, J.N. Desmarais Library
