Item 3D Printing Topographic Data: An Introduction and Technique(Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives, 2015) Mrozewski, TomaszThis paper documents ongoing research into the application of 3D printing processes to GIS data. As 3D printing becomes more accessible to a broad audience, its application to GIS data is being investigated by industry, academia and amateur Makers. This paper will outline a technique for converting contour lines into a digital, printable 3D models using ArcGIS and Rhino software; other methods will also be briefly discussed. The end goal of this research is to develop a set of easy-to-follow guidelines for replicating this process in the context of an academic library, drawing on the author’s own experiences.Item Abstract Machine: Humanities GIS(Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives, 2016) Mrozewski, TomaszA review of Abstract Machine: Humanities GIS, by Charles B. Travis.Item Are Canadian Libraries Ready to Transition from MARC to BIBFRAME?(Canadian Association of Information Science (CAIS), 2020-09-21) Fortier, Alexandre; Pretty, Heather; Scott, Daniel B.; Spéciel, OlivierThis project seeks to assess the Canadian library community’s understanding of and readiness for the transition from the MARC format to the BIBFRAME model. Data were collected using a survey distributed in English and French to a stratified random sample of 1,200 Canadian libraries. Results indicate that knowledge of BIBFRAME is low among respondents and that most of the libraries surveyed do not know enough about BIBFRAME to consider planning a transition at this point.Item Artificially enhanced research : Free software and fantastic research(2008-09-23T16:48:56Z) Scott, DanThe free software community has developed a number of tools that are useful to researchers. This presentation introduces four tools: the LibX toolbar to extend library searching throughout your Web experience; the Zotero plug-in for collecting, organizing, and citing your research materials; the LU|ZONE|UL institutional repository built on DSpace for making your research openly accessible; and the quick lookup Linux laptops that have made quick searches fast and easy for library visitors and saved Laurentian University tens of thousands of dollars in hardware replacement costs.Item Assessing the Readiness for and Knowledge of BIBFRAME in Canadian Libraries(Taylor & Francis Group, 2022-09-10) Fortier, Alexandre; Pretty, Heather J.; Scott, DanielThis study assesses the Canadian library community’s understanding of and readiness for the transition from the MARC format to the BIBFRAME model. Results indicate that knowledge of BIBFRAME is low among respondents and that most of the libraries surveyed do not know enough about BIBFRAME to consider planning a transition. The success of the transition will depend on the leadership of larger libraries as well as better training in formal programs and continuing education initiatives.Item The Bibliography of Northern Ontario / La bibliographie du nord de l'Ontario(Dundurn Press Limited, Toronto, Ontario, 1994) Thomson, Ashley; Hallsworth, Gwenda; Bonin, LionelItem Building an institutional repository at Laurentian University.(2008-03-29T19:29:20Z) Lafortune, SylviePresentation on LU institutional repository pilot project at Technology for Teaching, Learning and Research, Laurentian University, February 28, 2007.Item Canadian BIBFRAME Readiness Task Force survey instrument(2019-11-14) Scott, Dan; Fortier, Alexandre; Pretty, Heather; Spéciel, OlivierThis study aims to measure two aspects of Canadian libraries concerning the BIBFRAME bibliographic description model and vocabulary: 1) Measuring the level of understanding Canadian libraries currently have of BIBFRAME 2) Measuring how ready Canadian libraries are to transition from the MARC bibliographic format to BIBFRAME. Copper Cliff was a settlement around the copper mines of the Canadian Copper Company. A highly pragmatic solution to the problem of getting workers to resettle in out-of-the-way places, these towns usually had their houses, water and systems, schools, roads, stores, and entertainment centers built and financed by the primary company operating in the area. To the company, the housing and the town in general were investments, and also a 'tool' for controlling workers.Item Databrarianship(Partnership: the Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research, 2017) Mrozewski, TomaszA review of Databrarianship, ed. Item Elder Abuse: A Bibliographic Investigation(Ontario Elder Abuse Conference, 2002-11-19) Maley, DesmondOver the past few months, I have been assembling a bibliography on elder abuse that will soon be published on the Web site of the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (www.onpea.org). I brought to this inquiry the tools I developed a decade ago during a sabbatical I spent developing subject-literature expertise in gerontology. That study was focussed exclusively on the print literature. Today, however, no bibliography would be complete without addressing the multifaceted nature of communication. Not only is there the traditional “hard copy” bibliography, there are videos, the Internet, and even the telephone. (Phone Busters, operated by the Ontario Provincial Police, does research on telemarketing scams and seniors.) I should emphasize this bibliography is not meant to be comprehensive, but a “brief bibliography” along the lines of the excellent series published by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.Item Essential Earth Imaging for GIS(Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives, 2016) Mrozewski, TomaszA review of Essential Earth Imaging for GIS by Lawrence Fox III.Item Fac-Back-OPAC: An Open Source Interface to Your Library System(Computers in Libraries, 2007-10) Scott, Dan; Beccaria, MichaelThis article discusses the motivation for, history of, and capabilities of Fac-Back-OPAC, an alternative library catalogue built on open source technology.Item First report of the Sub-Committee on the investigation of the sulphur smoke conditions and alleged forest damage in the Sudbury region, February 1945(1945-02-01) Department of Lands and Forests, Committee on Smelter-Fume Damage in Sudbury Area.; Murray, R.H; Haddow, W.
